For my actual project 2 piece I have started to create a simple octagonal bangle. It has an octagonal outside with a circular center.

one8th etch & cut test
Got my one8th file cut & etched onto 3mm clear grey acrylic. I'm very happy with the result and have come away with some promotional gear and a great test piece :)

RHINO & one8th
Rhino & one8th
So I think that I’m starting to get the hang of RHINO. I’ve decided to do a little test piece to try cutting and etching. I recently acquired the domain name one8th so I thought that I’d experiment a bit with that.
At first I unnecessarily created the piece in 3D which was a waste of time but a good exercise none the less.
Once I realised my mistake I made the simple cut and etch file utilising the ‘layers’ tool.

Initial ideas continued
Initial ideas continued
For inspiration for this first project, I decided to look at geometric shapes, in particular the Octagon. A prop from one of my favourite TV shows, Smallville, heavily inspired this.
Initial Ideas for Project 2: Laser Cut 2D Jewellery or Small Object piece (20%)
For my first rapid prototyping piece ever, I want to keep the project simple. I will need to learn a lot of new computer skills so I don't want to create a design that is too complex to start off with. I figure that I will get a base understanding of Rhino before I try anything too difficult.
Given this, I am looking at simple shapes to cut and etch. For a long time now I have liked the Octagon so I think that this is as good a place as any to start with.
